Circular to Members of the Presbyterian Church of Queensland Community

(Members)

As you may be aware or have seen today’s news that the Presbyterian Church of Queensland (PCQ) has been placed in receivership by the Supreme Court of Queensland (Court). Late in the evening of 12 May 2021, Michael Andrew Owen and Philip Patrick Carter of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) were appointed by the Court as Receivers.

The receivership applies to assets, property and undertakings of PCQ. The Receiver’s role is, among other things, to take possession of and preserve the assets and operations of PCQ as well as undertake a review of PCQ’s affairs and report to the Court. We understand the application to the Court made by PCQ was considered necessary by PCQ to ensure that it could continue providing important services to the community whilst certain claims relating to the PresCare operations were resolved.

Whilst we conduct our assessment of the operations of PCQ, we plan to continue to operate the services that PCQ provides across the community on a “business as usual” basis, including the congregations and we will update stakeholders further once this initial assessment has been completed.

Should you have any questions you would like to raise with the Receiver’s office please email:

I look forward to being able to provide you with a further update as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully
