PCQ Applies for Receivership

Dear PCQ Congregation Member,

It is with heavy hearts we write to inform you, that the Commission of Assembly has instructed the Letter Patent Officers (Moderator, Clerk and Treasurer) of the PCQ to apply to the Queensland Supreme Court to have the Letters Patent Entity of the Presbyterian Church of Queensland placed in receivership and that this is taking place today (Wednesday 12th May). A media statement regarding this situation is attached.

As many of you would be aware, there has been more than a year of hard work to exit the aged care industry, undertaken with the aim of protecting the wellbeing of aged care residents, staff and congregations. We desired to provide details behind this necessary undertaking. However, we have been consistently advised not to do so due to the legal and financial processes and due to the high probability of this would undo the ongoing negotiations.

The negotiated process has achieved the following positive outcomes:

  • 2,500 aged persons now receiving in-home care through another provider, and
  • over 200 aged care residents in PresCare centres in Maryborough and Rockhampton
about to be provided for by Apollo Care.

Unfortunately, the combination of previous contractual arrangements and a very difficult aged care environment have proved a barrier to fully completing the exit plan and made the regrettable step of receivership necessary.

In the short term, we believe the mission of your local congregation will continue relatively unchanged. We encourage you to continue to participate and serve in the normal weekly ministries. If you are personally approached by the media, please ask them to contact Nick Owens of Sefiani Communications Group; mobile 0421 977 062; email nowens@sefiani.com.au

The Scripture urges us in 1 Peter 5 to humble ourselves under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift us, and to cast all our anxiety on him because he cares for us. We trust and pray that even in the midst of this most difficult and disappointing situation for the structures of our church, God will continue to use us as his people in his gospel mission to shine out the light of the knowledge of God’s glory in Christ.

Please commit the process of receivership to our Heavenly Father in prayer. Ask him to watch over PresCare residents and employees, and all the members of our congregations. Pray that he would grant peace to the hearts of all involved. Pray that the certainty of our hope in Christ will enable all congregation members, elders and ministers, to act with faith, conviction and love for the sake of the name of the Lord Jesus.

Yours in Christ,
