The Browns Plains Presbyterian People’s Story
We are a community of ordinary people from many backgrounds and walks of life, united in our love for Jesus Christ, our living and sovereign Lord.
Founded in 1984, Browns Plains Presbyterian Church has been shaped by Christ-centred Bible teaching and mutual care. We seek to be a people for God’s glory and a blessing to our neighbours and the nations.
As part of the Presbyterian Church of Australia, our roots lie in the Reformation. We are evangelical in our faith, seeking to follow Jesus Christ as wholehearted disciples and express our love for one another through humble service.
Jim Hopkin (deceased), our founding elder, played a significant part in the congregation’s early life. He encouraged the small Browns Plains congregation to become a congregation in its own right, rather than remain a preaching place of the Acacia Ridge Presbyterian Church.
Jim also helped secure ten acres of land in Waller Road, when the property was still bushland.
With the appointment of two more elders, Browns Plains became a congregation in its own right, with Jim serving as Session Clerk.
Jim proposed that Danny Mihailovic, then graduating from Queensland Theological College, become the congregation’s pastor. Danny went on to serve for 28 years. André Schwartz later assisted him and subsequently became pastor.
From those small beginnings—a congregation of 22 members—the church built a place to meet at 276 Waller Road, Heritage Park. Through the years, faithful Bible teaching and the service of many people have helped the congregation grow in faith and fellowship.
Rev Phil Strong and Rev Phil Case provided pastoral leadership before Rev Dr Wesley Redgen began serving in January 2025. Phil Case now serves as our interim pastor.
We welcome people at every stage of life, from the youngest to the oldest. With our different backgrounds and experiences, we learn from one another and grow together in our knowledge of God.
As God’s family, we seek to care for one another, welcome those who do not yet know Christ, and support the sharing of the good news among the nations, especially those with little opportunity to hear it.
Jesus invites us: “Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” —Matthew 11:28–30
We warmly invite you to join us as we learn to love and serve the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind and strength.
Join us on Sundays at 9:30 am. We’d love to welcome you.
