QTC Winter Newsletter

Training Gospel-driven leaders for a challenging world

From the Principal, Gary Millar.

As we reach the end of Semester 1, 2020, I think it’s fair to say it’s been unforgettable! Having to transition to online learning wasn’t something any of us had envisaged, but everyone adapted quickly to classes on zoom, and take-home exams and weekly catch-ups to pray together.  The chapel moved online too, as we worked through John’s letters, and then had Don Carson preach to us live from his dining room on Colossians 3 (all available on our website). The adaptability and commitment of our admin team, the flexibility of the teaching staff, and the graciousness of our students were all remarkable – we thank God for his kindness to us in so many ways during these past weeks. Having said that, we are all delighted to be returning to face to face (albeit at an appropriate social distance), on-campus teaching at the start of semester 2! We are so grateful to God that the technology was available to make this work, but it has also reaffirmed our long-expressed conviction that the best way to equip people for a lifetime of gospel-driven ministry is in person. Relationships really do matter, because people matter.

Speaking of people, we’re delighted that Nick Brennan will be with us for another six months (although sad for Nick, Inge and the family that their plans to move to the US, where Nick will be teaching at Westminster Seminary, California, have had to be put on hold). This is a real boost for us, especially as I am on study leave next semester. Please do pray for Andrew (Bain) as he takes the reins as Acting Principal for the rest of the year. We’re so sad to say goodbye.

We have been really encouraged by the significant number of new enrolments for Semester 2 (we wonder if Covid-19 has had the effect of focusing people on what really matters), and value your prayers for the rest of this year enormously, as we continue to seek to equip people for gospel ministry here in Queensland and beyond.

An update from our students,

Events Update.

While a lot of our events this year have had to be cancelled (Graduation, Facing a Task Unfinished Day Conference, the Revelation Public Lecture Day, and our Study Week for Gospel Workers, we are already looking forward to going ahead with these events next year (God willing). It looks like Don Carson will be able to join us in May, while Jared Wilson is planning to make it for next year’s Study Week. Our graduands who were meant to celebrate at this year’s Graduation will join next year’s cohort in March. We look forward to seeing you all again at events when the time comes.
