Evans Eight Update - Dec. 2016

by Bob Harvey last modified Dec 23, 2016 10:54 AM

Dear BPPC friends,

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We pray this time remembering the birth of our Saviour will be full of opportunities for you to both show and tell of the love of Christ to those around you who don’t know him, and that your own hearts will be renewed with the wonder of the gift God gave us in Jesus.

Kindy Mums and Kids Christmas Party

We just wanted to send a quick update and request for prayer. We have had Christmas parties for our younger kids school/kindy friends this past week, with opportunities to pray and show a DVD of the birth of Jesus. Some of the mums at the kindy party were really impacted by the way our older kids got in and served in the kitchen which has opened conversations about why our kids are so willing to do this. Please pray that this ongoing discussion topic will keep returning to the love of Christ. The family relationships they see exhibited in our home do not often exist in Japan (both because of of societal structure and elements of culture), and one mum commented, "I feel like I’m in a movie", because Western movies are the only place they have seen this kind of thing before.

We have also made some connections with a community space near us (that includes a tree house cafe); the manager calls himself Jiizasu ("Jesus" - he has long hair and beard) - we don’t actually know his real name! Tomorrow at 5pm, we will be doing carols by candlelight including a video presentation of the Jesus Storybook Bible Christmas stories, and running some craft activities. We had hoped to hand out literature and offer discounted Bibles for sale, but the owners of the space made it clear late in the negotiations that no 'religious literature' was to be distributed. Jiizasu, however is clearly curious, and doesn’t really know much at all about Jesus our saviour. He is quite excited about tomorrow’s event and is keen to develop a relationship. Pray he will meet King Jesus. We are running this event as “Kizuna Project” (our small web page can be found at www.kizunaproject.jp).

Christmas becomes more and more popular every year we are here.

Tomorrow at 11am we will host our neighbourhood Christmas party - pray for good conversations and progress in relationships. On Christmas Day, Chen is bringing some friends to our place for lunch. We have also invited some other team members who have no or few family.

Lily and friends at the Mission School 's Living Nativity Evening

We’re so grateful for your prayers this year. Our family has been generally well so far this winter, (except for the protozoa); Rose is still struggling with her gut issues (most recently diverticulitis), but praise God her iron levels have increased significantly through heavy supplemen-tation. Asher will return to Brisbane for university in February, so please keep him in your prayers.

We pray you will have a blessed Christmas and look forward to hearing how God will work in your lives in 2017!

Grace & Peace,

The Evans Eight
